Well done amazing.. thats great to hear how you went from stage 3 to stage 2. That’s my hope for myself too. Take care.
Well Done Julie, Sounds like you have everything well under control.Best wishes B
Thank you Beanbag
Wishing you well as you aim to reduce your kidney score x
I was diagnosed when at stage 3a. I’ve largely stayed in this category since diagnosis approximately 2 years ago. I was fortunate to be referred to the local hospital to see the nephrologist for tests (not that they found much) but at least I’m on their radar if things do get worse. Three months ago I was put on Jardiance as apparently it helps with kidney function. It’s primarily for diabetes which I don’t have but can be highly successful for kidneys. Let’s see!
Hi Sara Pleased to see you here. Glad you are stable. You are on the same drug as me although mine is called Empagliflozin. I am a diet controlled diabetic and have been for 15 years, so I get a double benefit. I started my course in October last and my tests have confirmed that it is a good choice for both conditions. Best wishes B
Fingers crossed that it keeps you on the right track! ![]()
I was diagnosed a 3a six months ago along with a prediabetes diagnosis - so I am assuming they are linked. My previous bloods tests were 10 years ago and clear.
I have been low carb/high protein for 5 years as recommended for menopause - a runner and pretty fit. So was quite blindsided by it all as I was already doing 'everything right’. But menopause and an injury led to weight gain and insulin resistance and when I tried to go back to the keto diet that had worked before so well I got heart palpitations – I now think this was electrolyte imbalance and impaired kidney function which I obv didn’t know about at the time. As soon as I upped my carbs they stopped.
The only change I have really noticed is I can get a ‘hangover’ with one glass of wine, which I assume is related… very sad indeed.![]()

Hello, I found the need to moderate everything a bit of a chore. If it did not need moderating or avoidance, it was something I did not like much anyway.Next time you see a GP or a Nephrologist ask about empagliflozin it is a drug which helps control kidney disease and Type 2 diabetes. It helped me , so it might help you. Best wishes B
Good to know. My GP said she’d seen great results with other kidney patients so I’m hopeful. Blood tests after three months show a bit of an improvement. I’m just a little bit more thirsty than I was.
I’m at menopause and a dancer so similar to you. I’m trying to navigate menopause and to be honest forgetting a little about my kidneys, apart from taking the Jardiance daily, as menopause seems the bigger beast to manage at the moment (although transdermal HRT has made an incredible difference).
I first found out by analysing some of my own test results. First from a random blood test I did, nothing was said but I noticed GFR had a down arrow next to the number. And I also had a University Air squadron medical where they found protein in the urine, but again nothing mentioned. I did the research and put two and two together. GFR has kept quite stable around 50 for 3 years and am 23 years old. So quite a big coincidence to have found it this early. Have had all the tests under the sun since then and they’ve found no causation.
Hello and welcome. Sorry to hear about your condition. I had a kidney removed years ago and then everything appeared fine. Later on during routine tests I learned about the the remaining kidney failing . Again, as with you. no advance notice, just a post script on the bottom of a letter. I have nearly 60 years on you, but I appreciate your concern at such a young age.Try to avoid anything that will hasten any depreciation in your EGFr if that is possible. You are in the right place to discuss your situation, but what does your medical professional advise that you do? Best Wishes B
I was 34, my father died of an aneurysm at 29 and he had pkd
I had an aneurysm clipped in 2017
30 years ago I became ill with Meningitis. That caused multi-organ failure, and my Kidneys shut down. At that point I was on dialysis a couple of times a week, and the hospital were considering transplant. Miraculously my little soldiers started working again and function finally settled at 3b. They took a second beating in 2005 when I had pre-eclampsia during my pregnancy with my daughter. But function returned and now hovers between 3b and 4 . I keep an eye on them as it doesn’t take much for them to slip down into stage 4.
That’s my story. Thankyou for reading.
Hello. Nice story. I am pleased that you are doing so well. Sounds like you are very careful and therefore very stable.as a result. Well done. The slide in kidney function is worrying at best. I am Stage 4 and have an appointment with the Easi-Kidney team at the end of this month. I am already wondering what news will be in store? Best wishes B
Amazing story. How often do you have blood tests?
Yes I am awaiting results. I feel nervous
I hope your appointment goes well. Let us know
