What happens now?

So, my eGFR was 27 in February, today, 5/6/ 2026 my eGFR has gone down to 20. My eGFR seems to be going down every couple of months.

What happens now? I’m waiting for an appointment at the renal clinic:

What happens at this appointment?

What should I be doing?

What should I expect?

Has anyone had any side affects at eGFR 20? I regularly get my blood count tested as I’m also diabetic that’s how it’s been noticed that my kidney function is getting worse. ckd isn’t caused by my diabetes, I’ve had kidney diseases since I was 4. I told my gp I’m having dizzy spells so she sent me for blood tests.

I’d be interested to hear people’s experience xx

Hello, My EGFr has just risen to 23 from 21. I get the ‘Wobbles’ from time to time, also had itchy skin, headaches and joint pain. Other than that all s well. Keeping well hydrated, 1 1/2 litres of fluid a day helps with blood pressure and EGFr. Your appointment should consist of what if any medication you should take eg: Empagliflozin, good for CKD and type 2 diabetes and also some dietary recommendations, Write down your questions and fears before you go as it is frustrating to remember them on the way home. You should cut down on your potassium intake, ie: stop eating bananas, tomatoes ,nuts, and whole grains. Do not panic or worry, as in my case your EGFr may start to rise if you eat and drink the right stuff. Please get back f you want specifics. Best wishes B

Mine isn’t that low, so I’m afraid I can’t help you. The good news is they are testing you, so they can help you to take steps to slow down the decline. I wish you well!

Hi Caz. My EGFR took 26 years to eventually get to 9 and I still didn’t feel any affects. Even a slight cold can send the numbers a bit haywire. All the best…
