I’m really worried about my first renal clinic could anyone advise on what may go one in my first appointment my efgr is 71 and acr is 18.8. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Whitney
It’s only natural to be concerned about the unknown! I don’t have any knowledge of kidney disease (hubby has no kidneys and is a dialysis patient for that reason) but I’m sure someone will be along soon to help with information and maybe give some reassurance.

Hello. Your EGFr of 71 is brilliant , mine is 21 and going down . As far as I can ascertain an ACR level of 3 to 30 is what is known as moderately increased and no so 18.8 is not a particular worry. I suggest you take the advice of your renal clinic on diet and relax a bit. What I would give for readings like yours. Happy days., Best wishes B
Hi Whitney
I have recently had my first renal clinic appointment and was very apprehensive too not knowing what to expect. I had some bloods done and a urine test a couple of weeks before the appointment as advised in the letter. However they did still need a urine sample at the clinic to test for protein or blood in urine. The nurse took blood pressure and weight then I went in to see consultant who discussed ask some questions about any family history or medical conditions. She discussed what my blood and urine results meant, and what stage of CKD I was at. I had more bloods done to check for other markers and I was started on a medication which I understand can help slow deterioration. I go back in a few months and may need a biopsy. Everyone was very friendly at the clinic and the consultant down to earth.
I hope this reassures you. Your numbers sound good but ask your consultant anything you don’t understand or go with a list of questions if you are likely to forget (like me! )
Best wishes
Helen
Hi, worry is natural, just try not to over think anything.
we are all different in what is affecting our renal function, I was at around 65 about 10 years ago and the consultant then said my condition was mildly interesting, nothing to worry about and would monitor the downward trend.
I am now with an eGFR of 14 and on the transplant list and awaiting the meeting with the dialysis team. But in that time, my function rate has had periods of steadily dropping 1 a month or being almost static for 6 months or more at a time, so there is no real timescale on it.
Just try and write down any questions you think of before you go and ask anything you think of.
Good luck ![]()
