Hi everyone,
Hope you are all coping okay in this heat.
I have a question about drinking water:
I have not been given any medical advice from my GP about whether to drink more or less water due to CKD (3a atm). I usually drink quite a few mugs of weak tea and 1-2 bottles of water while at work. However, working in a school in this heat has been unbearable so I have been drinking a lot more - 4-5 bottles of water at work and more when I return home.
Is that good or bad for my kidneys?
Jo
Hi, from my experience, stay hydrated at what you need. At stage 3a, I found it wasn’t too much of a drama, just keep steady water levels on what you feel is right if you don’t have any direct guidance from the GP or your consultant.
Watch for lower leg water retention, and keep your legs elevated in the evening to help if you can.
At stage 5 now and with dialysis approaching, I am aware I will need clear fluid level guidance and at the moment I am trying to have little and reasonably often to try not to overload the kidneys work and also keep myself from not feeling parched
Btw, even weak tea can put strain on your kidneys due to caffeine levels
Better to drop some of those and go with water

Hello Joanna I am in the same situation as you, Doctor says not to worry about doing anything different, just carry on exactly as you have been doing. I am 3a, 56 now, I find it all confusing one says this and then read that. So I half try to not use salt, but most times I eat and drink what I want, and hope for the best.
