Stage 3 chronic kidney disease

Hello! I’m not used to doing something like this so here goes! I had a kidney infection as a child but as I went through the menopause I was asked to have a blood test. It was a double whammy of menopause and stage 3a kidney disease. I was shocked and felt upset and so alone. The doctors didn’t really at the time support me or anything so I found out a lot online. I’m on statins now which are supporting me through my different symptoms along with the menopause. I’m keeping my blood pressure low, no issues with diabetes and trying to look after myself each day. It’s tough I’m not going to lie. What my life holds for me as I get older does scare me. Thanks

Hello. Nice to see you here. try not to worry too much, there is quite a lot on a dietary front that you can do, or you may be already doing it, to slow things down. Drink plenty and avoid potassium in a short response, if you want more information, let us know. I would love to be 3a, but I don’t know if I stopped at that station on my way to 4 ? What will be will be I am afraid to say ,but we can have some fun and light hearted moments along the way. Chin up ! Best wishes B

Hello! I’m also stage 3a and on the cusp of menopause. I’m on HRT at the moment and finding that really helps. How are you finding the statins? My doctor has suggested them but I’m not super keen yet.

Hello Sara, I have been on Atorvastatin now for 20 years. The upside is a lowering off cholesterol levels and I have had no apparent downside at all, Best wishes B

Hi , im stage 3b and just come through the other side of Peri menopause without hrt as my family cant have it , Im 55 this month. i also won’t have a statin unless i have to , I have just 1 kidney the other was taken out in 2022 as it was tiny and causing me more problems , I have bloods done at the docs every 3 months to keep an eye on my kidney function and I see my nephrologist once a year , and ive had some great meal recipes fron kidney care online , its a case of taking extra care of ourselves to stop or slow down any further decline

Dear Sara, I was hesitant with being told I need to take statins. They gave me loads of information. I do feel perhaps along with my menopause I’m still struggling with lots of symptoms. Do read up and if they suggest you take it give it a go. Not really had bad symptoms in regards to it. Let me know how you get on. Good luck

Hi Punkie. Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry to hear that you have gone through so much. I’m still trying to find my way through all of this. Look after yourself

Thanks! I’ll see how I do. I’m sure the doctor will ask me again at some point soon.
