I have had ny current travel insurance cancelled as I rang to inform them that I was starting dialysis and I am on the kidney transplant list. Does antlyone have any experience of obtaining travel insurance and a rough idea of cost. It would only be for 1 week to Austria.
I would try a specialist site such as
Others are available I believe. I would expect your insurance costs to probably be more than the flights now, but it’s worth going to a specific site that specialises in people who have medical conditions, rather than using generic sites
Thank you Chalky. I found some of the main companies would not cover me as I’m on a waiting list
However I rang All Clear and managed to get cover including waiting list for a fairly reasonable price so now I can go ahead and book my holiday ![]()
Hi
We have a relationship with the EU, the GHIC.
You might not really need travel insurance?
Hi Glynn thank you for getting in touch.
Unfortunately you still need teavel health insurance. Having looked at the website ut tells you that this does not cover you completely and you still need travel health insurance. I have managed to get cover with All Clear including waiting list cover for a reasonable price. Most companies will not insure you if you are on a waiting list for transplant or any other operation.
Yes, you should not travel abroad without travel insurance, particularly if you have kidney failure
Whellensc) Hi , I’m
Glad to see you got insurance.
I’m stage 3 at the moment but newly diagnosed , My travel insurance which I’d always had with Staysure , tripled when I told them I was stage 3 ! Even though the only questions were : are you on dialysis- no . Are you awaiting transplant - no .
They quoted £367 ! Why? Last year it was £120 for me and my husband inclusive.! -
Have a good time in Austria ![]()
I used them a couple of years ago. I was charged over £700 for myself and my husband for annual cover. I can’t get annual cover now and paid £270 this year but that includes waiting list cover with All Clear. Staysure and many others would not cover me at all despite advertising medical cover for kidney patients! Im just relieved that I could get cover for next year.
Hi I get my insurance through Kidney Care Uk and the Post Office always comes up with the best price through this site. I have paid approx £350 for two weeks Med cruise. Hope this helps x
