I am a male 77 years old with ckd stage 5 (egfr 14) with heart failure, I was first diagnosed with ckd in Dec '24 by a blood test after my pacemaker was fitted, since then my eGFR count has progressively declined, 3 months ago I had an extended appointment with my GP, he requested the meeting, we discussed treatment going forward, dialysis was not for me, because it just prolongs the misery of a crap life experience, kidney transplant was mentioned, but lets be real, at my age A,getting on the donor list isn’t going to happen and B, the likelyhood of survival of such an operation is close to zero, instead we talked about conservative management at home, which is fine, both my daughters and wife have agreed to do the heavy lifting at the end, although the older daughter said she draws the line at wiping my bottom.
Earlier today had another meeting with my GP when I asked for him to give me a SD1 form, which he refused on the grounds of it was too soon,and with Andy Burnham things will change! I’m not sure whether it was tongue in cheek or not, all the searches I’ve made with my history suggests I will not survive another 12 months, thoughts please?
