Itchy Skin

Hi, my partner is stage 3b and is really struggling with itchy skin mainly on his back and legs. It’s mainly at night, and driving him mad. A cool shower before bed helps a little bit & I am also putting on strong moisturiser prescribed from the doc. Is there anyone else suffering with this symptom? Is there any tips to help ease the itching? Sometimes he makes it bleed he’s itching so much and it can keep him awake at night. I just want to try anything to make him more comfortable and able to sleep at night.

Hi Chris. I had the same problems and found that Eurax with Crotamiton cream did the trick. One application lasted quite a long time. It is available across the counter at a lot of pharmacies and cost under £10. A very good investment in my case. I hope it helps. Best wishes B

Hi the itchy skin is truly awful and always worst at night. I use E45 It h relief cream before bed and also use Eurax itch relief cream during day / evening if needed. I still scratch terribly in my sleep and am covered in bruising. But I do get relief using these 2 creams plus normal moisturiser as often as need during day. I am stage 4 and the it h has gotten worse this past year. Good luck

My husband was prescribed Gabapentin which he takes before bed and it does help. Albeit he still gets itchy but not as bad.

Hi Chris. I also have stage 3b and suffer with an itchy scalp so can sympathise with your husband’s situation in trying to find something that helps.

You can get gel mats for adults (just like ones you can get for your dog/cats), or cooling blankets from Amazon. Check them out. I hope you can find something that helps :+1:t2:

I’m the same I get a very itchy scalp that I sometimes can’t stop. Also get really dry scaly skin .

I have been looking at this as it was something that I have noticed creeping up on me/my head.I have been recommended Polytar Scalp Shampoo, Not the cheapest, but still under a tenner. Might be worth a trial. Best wishes B

I’m stage 3, but don’t know wether it’s A or B as been left on my own, but help from Kidney UK has helped greatly. Now I am beginning to itch like crazy at night. I use Aveeno moisture cream, it works for me. But I also wake up with a sweaty head. It’s horrible.

I keep getting kidney ‘studies’ coming up on my Instagram asking for volunteers. I wonder what others think of this as I am considering taking part in one . I feel that as I got diagnosed recently and then was left to it waiting for scan , that perhaps a study would give me more information about my case. I’d have top people assessing me . The two things that bother me are can you back out of the commitment? And after the five years of the study are you dropped ? Like it never happened ? I’m assuming the nhs wouldn’t like me doing that. There’s so much conflicting information out there too . My dr is only saying more BP meds and statins which I really don’t want. Any comments please would help , I’m In limbo at the moment.
