CT scan with contrast

I am due to have a CT scan with contrast. I keep hearing stories about the effect on my kidney. I am stage 3b, eGFR is about 40.

Should I be concerned?

Hello John , I am Stage 4 Egfr 21 and my recent CT scan on my remaining kidney had no detrimental effect upon me at all. Hope that helps. Best wishes B

Well that is the NHS for you, generally non committal on specifics, but overall they are the reason we are still here. Best Wishes B

Hi John,

I had this done several years ago. I drank lots of water afterwards and felt fine. No side effects. On a side note I did find it really interesting to know exactly what each of my poor shrivelled little kidneys are doing.

I was told not to have the contrast (i am end stage) and so they arranged an alternative which was a solution I had to drink 3 times the day before and then all went ahead with no issues so seems no hard and fast rule as with many Kidney related issues,
