As you know, Doug I’m with you on this one. I have several issues with the medications I take. Furosemide has known side effects which can affect the mouth and teeth. A simple online search tells you it can cause dental problems. Xerostomia, increased dental plaque and cavities, ulcers and bleeding gums.
Also amlodipine another medication I take can cause gingival hyperplasia, which is gums overgrowing the teeth. Another problem I suffer with.
I truly don’t understand why our doctors/experts don’t have dental issues as a side effect or even acknowledge it’s existence. In America and Canada kidney patients teeth and dental health is a priority. Here we are told nothing.
Hi yes I’ve suffered bad oral health on my ckd journey because I was having so many uti and kidney infections I’ve had over 200 infections since I was diagnosed with ckd. it made me really sick days at a time with every infection so being so ill trying to keep on top of brushing your teeth was hard all the sickness in my mouth damaged all my teeth and couldn’t be repaired.my teeth we so weak and corroded by the acid in being sick that my teeth started to crumble.ive now had to have all my teeth removed. I considered having veneers but was advised against it as the fixed screws could ne damaged if I’m sick with future infections. I never considered my teeth would be damaged with kidney problems but it can happen I hope my story helps other kidney warrior’s be mindful that this could happen to them x
