Low phosphate diet and fibre

Keeping to a low phosphate diet means cutting out most dairy and processed meat. But fibre is also high in phosphate and I need it to stop constipation. Are there any forms of dietary fibre which are low phosphate? The hospital advice on low-phosphate foods doesn’t tackle this topic.

This is such a struggle of mine I’m also coeliac and I get conflicting advice from NHS dieticians.

I have been finding that even when I drink skimmed milk I feel nauseous anyway so thinking of removing diary completely now.

Tish,

Dieticians are fine if you have only one problem. But when its simple we can Google as well as the next person so don’t need a dietician. With two or more problems (I have osteopenia and gut issues as well as kidney disease) you’d hope that someone who had done a three year degree in the subject would be able to help. But no. I use McCance & Widdowson’s tables for phosphate content of foods. It is detailed, but all high-fibre foods seem to be high in phosphate.
