Just diagnosed progressive stage 3 kidney disease

Hi,

Im 30 years old and have just been diagnosed with progressive stage 3 kidney disease, I have had scans and nothing found, and I am now having a biopsy in a couple of weeks.

I have hypothyroidism which could possibly be the link?

I am 46mls/min so I’m close to going into 3b now, but no proteinuria.

So I’m wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation, and how they dealt with it all?

Thanks

Hi Bethan, welcome to Kidney Community! We haven’t funded any research into a link between CKD and hypothyroidism so unfortunately I can’t help there.

I really hope the biopsy goes well and you get some of the answers you’re looking for. Feel free to keep us updated if you wish

Hi Bethan,

Like you I was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease a year ago, my kidney function was at 33%, I found the doctors not much help, but I was referred to see the Renal consultant, who put me on a Balance course, it’s for 9 weeks,.once a week for about 2 hours, they go through everything you eat, what you shouldn’t eat , all the different dialysis treatments that are available and how they work, in my class, there people who had already had transplants, people who were already receiving dialysis and people like who hadn’t reached that stage, it was brilliant class. Has your doctor said about refering you to a consultant yet?, I’m sure once they do, you will be offered one of these courses to attend. I’m currently at stage 4 , 22%, a year later, it hasn’t been a quick drop compared to other people, and I just keep myself as healthy as I can, I was told not to eat processed, fast foods , cut right down on proteins and try and do exercise, even though, that’s really hard when you feel so fatigued.

I was annoyed with my doctor when she first told me about my kidney disease, apparently it had been dropping over the previous 5 years and nobody told me, she told me that the Renal consultant wouldn’t see me until I was stage 4, but I argued to be referred, as I needed to know why it has declined in this way. Apparently it’s because of long term high blood pressure, it’s a family thing, and I,be always been on a low dose of blood pressure tablets, but it was never monitored and over the years it has damaged my kidneys

I hope that you get to see a consultant and ask about going on a course, I’ve been on 2 more since, and join any kidney disease groups on Facebook, etc, I found them very good, especially when not understanding something

Good Morning, I found out I had complete failure in April at 32 years of age. I feel like the first few months are a bit chaotic in terms of all the dos and donts, but you soon take notes from your body and things feel easier. If you ever have any specific questions, or need a general chat. Please reach out. Thanks

Hi my names Heather, I’m 42 and I found out about my low kidney function from a blood test I had done in 2021, I only found out due to me asking for a copy of my blood results which my GP did not say anything about, fast forward 3 years later I got a call from my GP to say the new recommendation for people with low kidney function who have also had cholesterol issues was to be prescribed statins as a preventative. He then asked me the question did I know you have CKD???

Well anyway since then I have had blood tests and medications of all sorts thrown at me which I’m really scared about. I have had an ultrasound which revealed left kidney has a small stone and the right has issues with mild hydronephrosis, I’m awaiting results from an MRI I had recently to know what the next move is. My EGFR has been up and down in the 50’s for the last 3 years which I think looks positive that it not dropped below 50??? My previous blood test to my last showed that it has gone up from 52 to 58 but my last test showed it had dropped back down to 52 again with my creatinine was also high also.

As I said my GP is throwing tablets at me like no tomorrow, no one has actually sat me down and said this is where we’re at, this is what we want to avoid and this is what we’re going to need to do about it. It’s like a secret mission, if I don’t ask for my blood results then the receptionist says yeah fine! No issues!!

I work in healthcare and also a student nurse, I don’t know everything but I have seen people with this disease a lot worse off than me and I’m starting to panic.

Should I be worrying or am I over worried??

Thank you for listening Hx

Thanks for sharing this. It will be very useful to get tips etc. there doesn’t seem to be any consistency in how the medical profession deal with CKD :grimacing:.
I only have found this forum when I attended the Bridges Walk on Saturday in Glasgow. It’s great to speak to others with similar situations X :purple_heart:
