By Your Side | The realities of living with kidney disease

We’re proud to share our new By Your Side campaign video, featuring real people affected by kidney disease sharing their stories.

Their experiences are honest, emotional and unfiltered, capturing the realities of life with kidney disease through the heartbreaks, breakthroughs and everything in between.

If you’ve ever wished that friends, family, colleagues or others better understood what life with kidney disease is really like, we hope this video helps start those conversations.

If you gave an update to everyone in a 30 second video, unscripted and unfiltered, what would you want to say?

If you’d ever like to share your own experiences or get more involved in our work, we’d love to hear from you. Just message @Brogan_admin!

Well that’s just set me off :sob:

But I will send that to my managers at work who don’t fully realise what it’s like to face this.

Had my Dads funeral on Monday, and I’ve had calls with the renal team and Kidney peer support coordinator today, as I am going in for my arm fistula procedure on Monday next week!

Then only 4 weeks to go until I have my (unrelated to kidney) cancer treatment starting, so it’s a bit of a rollercoaster in this house right now :joy:

Oh @Chalky13, that is one heck of a rollercoaster indeed. I am so sorry to hear about your dad too :purple_heart: .

How are you feeling ahead of Monday?

Thanks

Anxious, stupidly watched the fistula op video from the hospital that was sent. Probably shouldn’t have :joy:

But I think I’m just as anxious about the recovery time and what it entails. I’m sure it’ll be ok, but just a lot of emotions at the moment after my Dads illness and passing, and then the cancer diagnosis too. Could’ve done with only 1 piece of not such good news really, but such is life, eh

Always the way, you think by knowing more it might put your mind at ease

Absolutely, one at a time would’ve helped the process but as you say… such is life indeed! Feels unfair with just even one of those things to happen, but all three at once is pretty intense. Please take care @Chalky13, here to chat whenever you need.

Let us know if your managers have any comments on the video, it’s pretty eye opening for those who don’t know.

“That’s a hard watch and I’m a little lost for words. You and your family going through this journey have my utmost respect.“

That was his reply. I feel it has helped him realise what I am facing for this next part, let alone the rest
