When you think of lupus, kidney health probably doesn’t come to mind. But for many, it is the direct cause of their kidney disease.
Has your kidney disease been caused by lupus?

I was diagnosed with SLE when I was 15. Fortunately I had very good doctors who have looked after me over the years. The first 5 to 7 years were the worst and I developed kidney disease in my early 20s. I consider myself to be fairly lucky that I have had a pretty normal life and only now when I’m in my mid 60’s that I have had to go on the transplant list but still don’t need dialysis. I have had issues over the years but I think you have to make the most of the life you have.
Hi @Whellensc18! ![]()
It sounds like you’ve been managing this for a long time, and it’s really positive to hear that you’ve had good support from your doctors along the way. Being diagnosed so young and then going on to have a pretty normal life for many years is something I’m sure others here will find both reassuring and encouraging
.
What you said about making the most of the life you have really resonates, so thank you for sharing that perspective.
Thanks,
Brogan
