For many, regular hospital visits become part of everyday life. How do you cope with going so often? Has anything made it easier over time? What do you do to pass the time while you’re having your dialysis?

I am only on my fourth week of in centre haemodialysis after doing dialysis at home for over three years. I got myself a tablet and catch up on Netflix and Disney Plus, return emails, call my adult children, do a bit of online shopping including my food shop. Some days the time goes really quickly, other days not so quickly.

When I was completing my hemo dialysis at hospital, my other half and I would take a pack of cards to pass the time, too tired to read and it helped me to not focus on where I was and why I was there. Great distraction to feel ‘normal’ and not a patient, just a day out instead!

I’m looking to use my HHD time to learn a subject or a language hopefully, depending on how I feel. I’m hoping that I won’t feel too drained or mentally exhausted and can use the time positively and not just spend a couple of hours watching tv ideally

However, that may soon change if dialysis isn’t what I’m hoping it may be like for me

Sounds like a great idea and a goal to work towards… hope it goes well for you.
